Instant-access savings (Tagesgeld) is a bank deposit available at any time at a variable rate and with no price risk, protected in the EU up to 100,000 EUR per bank and customer by the statutory deposit guarantee.
Instant-access savings, known in German as Tagesgeld, is a bank deposit that can be accessed at any time. The interest rate is variable and can change at any point, and unlike securities there is no price risk: the amount paid in does not fluctuate.
Within the EU, such balances are protected by the statutory deposit guarantee up to 100,000 EUR per bank and customer. Anyone wishing to secure larger sums usually spreads them across several institutions.
Because it is available at all times and carries no price risk, instant-access savings is the typical home for an emergency fund, the reserve set aside for unexpected costs.
