Portfolio
A brokerage account is an account for holding securities such as shares, ETFs, bonds and funds at a bank or broker.
A brokerage account (also called a securities or custody account) is an account that holds securities such as shares, ETFs, bonds and funds. It is the counterpart to a current account for securities transactions.
Brokerage accounts are offered by banks and online brokers. Costs vary widely: branch banks often charge account maintenance fees and high order costs, whereas many online brokers offer free accounts and favourable terms.
Important: securities held in a brokerage account are segregated assets (Sondervermögen) and remain the investor's property even if the bank becomes insolvent. They are not part of the insolvency estate.
