Portfolio
The profit or loss of an investment expressed as a percentage of the capital invested, usually stated per year.
Return indicates how much profit or loss an investment has generated relative to the capital invested. It is usually expressed as an annual percentage.
There are different types: nominal return (before inflation), real return (after inflation), and total return (capital gains plus distributions). For a meaningful comparison between investments, total return after costs and taxes should generally be used.
CAGR (compound annual growth rate) is the most commonly used metric for average annual return over several years.
